Advancing Inclusive Development through Community Empowerment
In line with the development agenda of Mayor Maria Theresa R. Timbol on inclusive development, the Kapalong College of Agriculture, Sciences, and Technology (KCAST), through its Gender and Development (GAD) Fund and spearheaded by the Research, Development, and Extension Office (RDEO), conducted the extension project titled "Empowering Indigenous Communities with Sustainable Health and Security" on March 24, 2025, in Sitio Biokong, Barangay Sampao, Kapalong, Davao del Norte.
As KCAST's adopted community, Sitio Biokong received vital health and safety interventions, including a Malaria and Dengue Prevention Advocacy Campaign and the distribution of mosquito nets and solar lights to 50 households. These initiatives were designed to enhance the overall well-being, safety, and resilience of the residents--empowering them to thrive in a more secure and sustainable environment.
The event was graced by key officials from KCAST, including Dr. Rodrigo C. Licayan Jr., College President, who delivered the welcome remarks, and Lorlielie A. Castro-Tampipi, GAD Focal Person, who presented the project rationale. Mayor Maria Theresa R. Timbol also extended her message of support, emphasizing the value of collaboration in promoting inclusive and sustainable community development. A heartfelt message of gratitude and commitment was delivered by Ernesto Abad, Purok Leader of Sitio Biokong.
The project facilitated a strong sense of unity and appreciation among community members and partners, reaffirming KCAST's commitment to being a catalyst for transformative change. Through this initiative, KCAST continues to champion sustainable health practices and community security, contributing meaningfully to the long-term development of Sitio Biokong.
