Kapalong, Davao del Norte -- Under the theme "Less Plastic, More Planet," the Local Government Unit of Kapalong recognized exemplary implementers of Municipal Ordinance No. 1145, Series of 2020, for the year 2024. The awards ceremony took place during the LGU's weekly convocation on April 21, 2025, at the Municipal Gymnasium.

Businesses that demonstrated outstanding compliance with the ordinance received cash incentives and banners as tokens of appreciation. These include Kaimasan Eatery, Yen's Garments, Bapilar Fruitstand, and Geiyani's Bakeshop. Additionally, Cafe Ikameb was acknowledged as the Most Improved Establishment for making significant progress in ordinance implementation. The event was graced by Hon. Mayor Theresa R. Timbol, alongside LGU department heads, section chiefs, and employees.

To highlight institutional efforts toward environmental sustainability, several offices were recognized as top performers in waste segregation. These include the Supply Section, KCAST's Office of the President and Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs, Municipal Civil Registrar's Office, KCAST Office of the Program Heads, and the Municipal Accounting Office.

Further reinforcing the LGU's commitment to professional development, certificates of recognition were awarded to employees who successfully completed their Master's degrees and those who passed the Financial Management Examination. These commendations underscore the dedication to excellence in public service.

In addition, the LGU launched the Buy Back Center at the MAGRO Compound, designed to promote waste segregation. The center accepts recyclable plastics, used garments, and used oil in exchange for monetary compensation, Earth Points, and GCash credits, incentivizing environmentally responsible behavior.

Spearheading the event, Mayor Timbol also led the ceremonial signing of a Memorandum of Understanding for the Department of Science and Technology's Microgridterprises Project under the Community Empowerment through Science and Technology (CEST) program. Located in Sitio Mambago, Barangay Gupitan, this initiative aims to improve energy reliability, reduce electricity costs, enhance resilience to outages, and promote the use of renewable energy sources.

In her speech, Mayor Timbol expressed heartfelt appreciation to all stakeholders for their unwavering support and active participation in advancing municipal policies. She emphasized that collective action is vital in building a sustainable and environmentally responsible community.
