The spirit of patriotism filled the Kapalong Municipal Hall Grounds as the local government unit Kapalong commemorated the 126th Philippine Independence Day, today, June 12, 2024 (Wednesday). The event was marked by a series of activities, speeches, and performances that demonstrated unity and pride among the Kapalongians.

The ceremony began with the procession of local officials led by Mayor Maria Theresa R. Timbol and Vice Mayor Edgardo L. Timbol; Board Members Popo Estabillo, BM Nickel Suaybaguio and BM Helen Mae Discaya, Barangay and SK Officials, employees, dignitaries, and guests who were all dressed in their stylish barongs and filipiñanas. This was followed by the singing of the Philippine National Anthem which was initiated by the Kapalong Brass Band with participants from the Armed Forces of Philippines (AFP), Philippine National Police (PNP), Bureau Fire Protection (BFP), Regional Mobile Force Battalion (RFMB), Special Action Force (SAF).

In her opening remarks, Mayor Timbol underscored what it means to pay tribute for the sacrifice that has been made by heroes who fought for the independence of this country in its past.

“Our triumph over the present perplexities reflects our true freedom,” the mayor stated.

The KCAST Dance Company performed a cultural dance presentation followed by the parade of Philippine historical flags which provided a visual representation of the flags used over the years. During the reminiscing of Philippine history, Dr. Ronel Dagohoy, Vice President for Research, Development, and Extension of the Kapalong College of Agriculture, Sciences, and Technology (KCAST), narrated the nation's history and rekindled the sense of patriotism among the attendees.

Meanwhile, Dr. Dominic Dizon, the Public Schools District Supervisor (PSDS) of the Langilan and West Districts and the guest speaker delivered a speech wherein he urged us [Kapalongians] to be reminded of the bravery of every Filipino which led to our independence and use it to uphold in facing the challenges of today.

“As a member of the Mandaya Tribe, I will continue to uphold our freedom and this will be my direction toward providing quality education, especially in the IP communities in Barangay Gupitan,” Dizon emphasized.

Certainly, this event is more than just a celebration of the 126th Independence day. It served as a reiteration of the principles that continue to shape the nation. The spirit of patriotism that filled the air during this event serves as a guiding light which illuminates the path in times when hope seems fleeting.
