LGU Kapalong Announces Upcoming Earthquake Drill, Environmental Activities, and Major Infrastructure Projects

Kapalong, Davao del Norte--On June 16, 2025, Municipal Mayor Maria Theresa R. Timbol, along with LGU Kapalong department heads, section chiefs, and employees, gathered at the Municipal Gymnasium for the weekly convocation.The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) announced the conduct of the National Earthquake Drill on Thursday, June 19, as part of the 2025 National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED), which aims to enhance disaster preparedness and ensure public safety during seismic events.Meanwhile, the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) shared updates on their upcoming activities, including a Tree Planting Activity on June 20 in Sitio Matol, Gupitan, and a Buyback Program at the Kapalong Public Market on June 29. MENRO also reiterated the importance of proper waste management, particularly avoiding the burning of garbage, especially plastics, which poses serious environmental hazards. They further emphasized the importance of waste segregation and minimizing the use of single-use plastics.Mayor Timbol also announced key development projects including the renovation of the Municipal Gymnasium with an allocated budget of ?60 million and the construction of the Dugayan Bridge, costing ?120 million. Furthermore, she reminded residents to remain vigilant against the spread of the monkeypox virus, and encouraged everyone to wear face masks in public places and adhere to health safety measures.
