KCAST CONCLUDES 3-DAY ALCUCOA ACCREDITATION PROCEDURE
by
Fj Riezl O. Manile
Sat, Jun 1, 2024 6:08 AM

The Kapalong College of Agriculture, Sciences, and Technology (KCAST) successfully underwent a comprehensive three-day accreditation process. This culminated in an exit conference for the accreditors from the Association of Local Colleges and Universities Commission on Accreditation (ALCUCOA), which was held at the KCAST Gymnasium on May 31, 2024.

The accreditation process evaluated various aspects of KCAST's academic programs, facilities, and administration to ensure quality education for its students. The positive outcome of the accreditation procedure reflects KCAST's commitment to excellence in higher education.

Prior to this, on May 30, 2024, the accreditors visited Sitio Biokong, the third community adopted by KCAST, situated in Sampao, Kapalong, Davao del Norte.

Reflecting on her accreditation experience at KCAST back in 2015, Dr. Emilda Soriano, Supervising Accreditor of ALCUCOA, conveyed how she has seen the growth of KCAST. "I really see how you grow. Your next steps are crucial," Dr. Soriano said.

Maria Corina Timbol, the Municipal Administrator, delivers the message of Mayor Maria Theresa Timbol, who is in Manila, where she is attending an equally important event. The administrator told a story about how her parents—the former Mayor and the incumbent Municipal Vice Mayor Edgardo L. Timbol, and the former Barangay Maniki Captain, now the Municipal Mayor—discussed how to revive KCAST after it was ordered to close by CHED and former Sangguniang Bayan officials, over their family dinner.

"I remember my parents discussing the challenges they faced and what the best actions would be to revitalize KCAST. For my father, having a local college here in our municipality will greatly impact the future of our generations. He [former Mayor Timbol] pleaded with the CHED director not to close the school,” the administrator shared.

“I also witnessed how proud they were of the progress made since then," she added.

Meanwhile, even though the mayor was not present during the exit conference, Mayor Timbol is genuinely grateful for the ALCUCOA's presence to offer insightful feedback for the improvement of KCAST. The mayor emphasized that the 3-day evaluation had been very challenging for the accreditors, but she is confident that the thorough assessment will lead to constructive and valuable recommendations.

Even after the evaluation, KCAST promises to continuously solidify its position as the leading local college in the Davao Region, setting a benchmark for excellence and inspiring other colleges to follow its example.

In a closed door interview, Dr. Rodrigo C. Licayan Jr., KCAST College President, uttered his appreciation towards LGU Kapalong, Timbol administration, KCAST faculty and staff, students, the community, and individuals involved in establishing KCAST.

"[Your role] will create a lasting impact not just in the KCAST community but the entire country," Dr. Licayan said.
