Galing Pook National Validation Team Evaluates Kapalong Official Entry, commends LGU Kapalong

Kapalong, Davao del Norte—The National Validation Team from the Galing Pook Foundation visited the official entry of the Municipality of Kapalong—the Kapalong College of Agriculture, Sciences, and Technology (KCAST)—for the 2024 Galing Pook Awards Site Validation Process, on Thursday, August 15, 2024.Among the areas visited to validate its innovative practices and project implementation was the KCAST Extension Campus located in Sitio Patel, Barangay Gupitan; the KCAST Agricultural Production Site in Barangay Capungagan; and the KCAST-adopted community in Sitio Biokong, Barangay Sampao.Municipal Mayor Maria Theresa Royo-Timbol and the members of the Sannguniang Bayan attended the Entrance Conference along with Arnel L. Panimbo, MPA-LG—Local Economic Development and Investment Promotion Officer and KCAST College President Rodrigo C. Licayan Jr., served as the lead personnel to assist the validators.Dr. Jose Rene Gayo—Galing Pook Validator, expressed his appreciation towards the local government unit of Kapalong for the innovative initiatives and for allowing and assisting them to personally visit the areas and communities.“I’m very happy kung unsa akong nakita kay at least ang programa nga [...] among review, validate [through our] interaction sa mga community,” Dr. Gayo said.Dr. Gayo also identified KCAST as the strength of LGU Kapalong in its efforts to reach out and cater to the needs of the Indigenous Peoples (IP) community, be it in terms of education, agriculture, livelihood, and more.“There are so many cities and municipalities already with their own colleges [...] but the unique thing that we have seen here is the effort to reach out to the IPs because we know very well that IPs are one of those people that have been neglected, so that’s why we thought that ‘this is something that’s very unique,’” he added.He also commended LGU Kapalong for a job well done and hinted at the favorable outcome once this program is recognized nationally and becomes a paragon for other LGUs in the Philippines.“You have done a good job! When this project is in the finals, you will be [...] known nationally, and our hope is that many more LGUs will follow what you are doing,” he said.KCAST as the official entry of the Municipality of Kapalong is one among the 147 entries submitted by various LGUs and organizations across the Philippines for the coveted Galing Pook Award tagged as “The Oscars Awards of the Philippines”.LGU Kapalong emerged victorious as it was recently selected as one of the 24 LGUs and organizations that qualified for the validation stage.The one-day activity concluded with an Exit Conference attended by the institutions’ stakeholders, academic officials and administrators, and LGU Kapalong's top management.Propelled by its ambitious spirit to soar higher, LGU Kapalong hopes to become one of the Top 10 LGUs in the entire Philippines to be awarded the prestigious Galing Pook Award.
